‘The 21st Century Mind: Blowing It, Expanding It, Losing It’ with Baroness Susan Greenfield
6th February 2018, 19:00-21:00
Hurtado Jesuit Centre
In the context of the seminars ‘A Post Truth Word- Are We Losing Our Minds?’, Baroness Susan Greenfield will present the topic ‘The 21st Century Mind: Blowing It, Expanding It, Losing It’.
Since the 21st Century is delivering new technologies that are transforming our environment in unprecedented ways, it follows that the human brain, and thus our minds, could also be undergoing unprecedented changes: Blowing It . Meanwhile, consciousness is the ultimate miracle, – and enigma. Subsecond imaging is enabling us, for the first time, to characterize a previously under-appreciated fundamental brain mechanism: Expanding It. One of the biggest problems of our time, is Alzheimer’s Disease. Our research suggests that this devastating condition is an inappropriate recapitulation of a developmental mechanis: Losing It.
