Going On Retreat
What do you think when you think of “going on retreat”? Perhaps it means travelling to a beautiful place, getting away from the hubbub of daily life or making a special time to reflect… For some of us, this can mean a once in a lifetime opportunity, for others a week away outside town once a year, or maybe even a quiet day once a month. What if we could take time, here and now in our own context, to rest a little, re-connect with our deepest values and renew our sense of where we go next? What if once we have taken that time, we each discover that “(t)he place where God calls you is the place where your deep gladness and the world’s deep hunger meet”? as Frederick Buechner SJ says. Life and work in this part of London can be energising, vibrant and meaningful. It can also be busy, tiring and stressful. When we are tired, we can also forget how to enjoy serving our neighbours, building our communities and helping work for justice. Perhaps before the summer term ends, we can each take time to “go on retreat” to reflect and re-focus. If you would like to do that at the Hurtado Urban Retreat Day, we would love to see you.
